resp onsibilities and actionsIntroduction This Part of the TRBAP sets out practical advice (the 'Toolkit') for anyone concerned with the road network. The actions that managers need to take to fulfil their responsibilities are outlined and the key source of Scottish Executive policy and guidance, Cost Effective Landscape: Learning from Nature (CEL:LfN), is summarised. Good practice information is set out in relation to key road related features. Managers and staff responsible for the day to day maintenance of the trunk road estate do not need detailed or expert knowledge of the environment to be able to implement the practices described here. Where necessary they can draw upon further sources of expertise and advice both from within the Transport and Planning Group and externally. Overall responsibilities Contributing to local biodiversity is the responsibility of everyone working on trunk roads, and should be a normal part of working practice. Managers are required to further the biodiversity aims of the Transport and Planning Group and follow relevant landscape and environmental policies. Each Management Area will carry out an audit of its biodiversity resource to identify key sites (this may be done with input from the local biodiversity partnerships), and will demonstrate its contribution to biodiversity objectives via updates to the TRBAP (see example case studies at the end of Part B). |
