To avoid unnecessary repetition of the term ‘recorded crimes and offences’ throughout this publication reference will simply be made to ‘offences’. This should be interpreted to mean recorded crimes and offences. Also, the reference to the ‘use’ of firearms throughout the bulletin should be interpreted to mean the ‘alleged use’ since, in a number of cases, it is not clear that a firearm was actually used (see Annex Note 3).
