1. The Chief Constables annual report included supplements relative to each local authority and appreciative comment was made to HMIC by one local authority official who had just received the document, regarding the Chief Constable's initiative in this respect. HMIC considers this good practice. (paragraph 1.18)
2. The local intelligence officers' involvement in local briefings in most sub-divisions is good practice. (paragraph 1.34)
3. The force continues to second sergeants to the Media Services Unit in order to gain insight into working with the media. The last three secondments have been for three months and HMIC considers this good practice. (paragraph 1.45)
4. HMIC consider the Local Improvement Groups to be good practice and would encourage the force to continue its current level of support for the initiative. (paragraph 2.18)
5. HMIC regards the development of Service Level Agreements as good practice and they now need to be regularly monitored and reviewed to ensure best value. The force has recognised this and the agreements are to be reviewed annually as part of the Best Value service review. (paragraph 3.8)
6. HMIC considers the format and membership of the Property Strategy Group to be good practice. (paragraph 3.27)
7. The I.T. Departmental business plan details the forces priorities in relation to I.T. communications including the remaining costs for and project and HMIC notes such costing as good practice.
8. The force has produced a phased contingency plan to address different scales of communication problems which can arise from the loss of a single facility to the total loss described above. This is a realistic and sensible approach and constitutes good practice. (paragraph 4.10)
9. The greater use of "pools" from which the force can fill vacancies was considered by HMIC to be good practice. (paragraph 5.7)
10. Evidence of good practice, enthusiasm and commitment was found within sub-divisional crime management units with local crime managers (detective inspectors) and their staff working well together in small teams. (paragraph 6.7)
