Scottish Transport Statistics No18: 1999 Edition

ERRORS IN THE PREVIOUS EDITION

Unfortunately, the following errors occurred.

1. Summary of Transport in Scotland – the 1996 figure for "Coastal Shipping of 36.2 should have been 40.3. The corresponding index value of 126.6 should have been 140.9.

2. Table 3.1 – the 1990 figure with the destination "England" of 13.0 should have been 13.1.

3. Table 5.1 did not have any units specified. The figures are "kilometres".

4. Table 4.1 – the 1995 "average toll" figure for the "Tay Bridge" of 84.3 should have been 82.3. Also, the 1990 and 1995 "average toll" figures for the "Erskine Bridge" of 38.6 and 59.2 should have been 39.2 and 57.4 respectively. In all three cases, the corresponding "at 1997 prices" figures were also wrong.

5. Table 9.1 – the 1995 figure for "Cargo" of 47,548 should have been 47,546.

6. Table 9.8 - the 1990 figure for "Aberdeen" of 83,132 should have been 83,780.

7. Table 10.1 – the 1993 figure for "Domestic Inwards" of 7,373 should have been 7,394.

8. Table 10.2 – regrettably, this contained several errors. In previous years, "Glensanda" had not appeared separately and its traffic was included under "Other West Coast". Last year, for the first time, "Glensanda" appeared separately but, unfortunately, the figures for "Other West Coast" were not changed accordingly. Similarly, "Cromarty Firth" appeared separately for the first time, but the figures for "Other East Coast" were not changed either. So, there were errors in the figures for "Other West Coast" and "Other East Coast" for every year.

In addition, the 1991 figure for "Forth Bulk fuel" of 18,357 should have been 18,375; the 1994 figure for "Scotland Bulk fuel" of 101,279 should have been 101,730; and the 1996 figure for "Scotland Bulk fuel" of 95,953 should have been 99,738.

9. Table 10.11 – the 1993 "passengers" figure for Caledonian MacBrayne of 6,200 should have been 6,201; and the 1997 total shipping services figure for "Revenue from users" of 51,711 should have been 51,952.

10. Table 11.1 had a number of errors. First, it did not split the 1995-96 and 1996-97 figures for "Local transport capital" between "roads-new construction and improvement" and " public transport investment".

Secondly, it wrongly had "-"as the 1995-96 figures onwards for "Central government subsidies to transport industries, other", and because of this error, the three subsequent lines of totals were also wrong for 1995-96 onwards.

Finally, the 1993-94 figure for "Local transport revenue, road maintenance" of 229 should have been 227.

The tables in this edition include corrected figures. Any problems or inconveniences resulting from these errors are regretted.
