SUMMARY OF RECOMMENDATIONS

Recommendation 1
(paragraph 6.5)

It is recommended that proposed training courses should be the subject of a formal training needs and cost analysis prior to approval by the ACPOS Personnel and Training Standing Committee.

Recommendation 2
(paragraph 6.8)

It is recommended forces should review their policies on the provision of in-force driver training prior to officers attending College driving courses.

Recommendation 3
(paragraph 7.8)

Forces should scrutinise the professional experience and abilities of future student nominations against the person specifications and competencies of the course with a view to ensuring the best possible candidates are put forward.

Recommendation 4
(paragraph 8.9)

It is recommended that the superintendent rank of Co-ordinator of the Accelerated Promotion Programme be reviewed.

Recommendation 5
(paragraph 9.11)

It is recommended that probationer constable progress files be transferred to forces rather than the current assessment reports.

It is recommended that the role of the Open and Distance Learning Unit be reviewed with a view to providing a central facility for the development of distance learning packages.

It is recommended that the qualifications for entry for constables be reviewed with a view to reducing training costs.
