The food and drink industry, currently worth £7.3 billion, is a major contributor to Scotland's economy.

One in five people in Scottish manufacturing work in the sector and food and drink is the top exporting industry.

As well as being vital to Scotland's economy, food impacts on many other aspects of Scottish life - health, education and the environment.

A National Discussion was held in early 2008, inviting people to help shape Scotland's first national food policy.

All responses have been independently analysed, and a statement on key findings and the way forward was made by the Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment on June 19, 2008.
