HGV Driver schemes (Dec 2007)
The Scottish Road Haulage Modernisation Fund provided funding for two HGV driver training programmes carried out during the period of April 2003 to March 2007 - the Scottish Young LGV Driver Scheme (SYDS) and the Scottish Driver Training Scheme (SDTS). The SYDS aimed to expand the pool of labour available to the Scottish logistics sector by permitting drivers to obtain a category C licence at 18 rather than at 21, while the SDTS was aimed at the over 21 year old age group and addressed a perceived shortage of HGV drivers.
The attached report (click here) is a review of how successful the project was in delivering its objectives.
