Municipal waste arisings and percentage recycled or composted
Municipal waste arisings rose from 3,408 thousand tonnes during 2004/5 to 3,414 thousand tonnes in 2007/8, an increase of 0.2 per cent. Over the same period the percentage of municipal waste recycled or composted rose from 17 per cent to 32 per cent. This reflects an increase of more than 80 per cent in the amount of municipal waste that was recycled or composted.
