SIMD 2006 General Report

An initial analysis of the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation 2006. The report also contains a preliminary analysis of relative change in deprived areas between the SIMD 2004 and SIMD 2006 and each of the domains.

SIMD 2006 Guidance Leaflet

The SIMD 2006 guidance leaflet contains information on appropriate and inappropriate use of the SIMD 2006 and how to assess change over time between SIMD 2004 and SIMD 2006

SIMD 2006 online Statistical Compendium

An online statistical compendium of data and analysis of the overall index and each domain, particularly at the local authority level.

SIMD 2006 Technical Report

A detailed online technical report which includes a description of the methodology and information about each individual indicator.

November 2005

SIMD 2004 Methodology Evaluation and the Scottish Executive's Official Response

The Scottish Executive's Long Term Strategy for Measuring Deprivation included a commitment to evaluate the statistical techniques used in SIMD 2004. On 3 November 2005, the Scottish Government published an evaluation of the statistical techniques in SIMD 2004, conducted by the Robertson Centre for Biostatistics (RCB), University of Glasgow. A statistical publication notice, containing the Scottish Execujtive's offical response was published alongside the report.

Social Focus on Deprived Areas 2005

The Social Focus on Deprived Areas 2005, published on 27 September 2005, is a compendium of statistics providing detailed information on the depth and concentration of poverty and disadvantage in deprived areas as defined by the SIMD 2004.

A guidance leaflet outlining how the SIMD 2004 can and can't be used.

SIMD 2004 Summary Technical Report and Detailed Technical Report

The SIMD Summary Technical Report, published alongside the SIMD in June 2004 provides a clear overview of the methodology used to develop the SIMD 2004 and presents initial Local Authority level summary results. A more technical report, describing the methodology used to create the indicators, domains and overall index, was published at the later date of 25th October 2004.

August 2003

Measuring Deprivation in Scotland : Developing a Long-Term Strategy and the Scottish Executive's Official Response

In August 2003 the Scottish Executive published a report from the Scottish Centre for Research on Social Justice (SCRSJ) called 'Measuring Deprivation in Scotland : Developing a Long-Term Strategy'. The final report was based on a wide ranging consultation process and built on the Scottish Indices of Deprivation 2003 (SID 2003). Through a steering group, consultation on the interim report and public meetings the views of central and local government, community groups, academics and the wider general public were sought. The Scottish Executive response, in which the Scottish Executive accepted all of its recommendations, was published alongside the final report.

Scottish Indices of Deprivation 2003

Prior to the creation of SIMD 2004, an interim index - providing a relative ranking of electoral wards in Scotland - was produced by Oxford University's Department of Social Policy and Social Work and published in February 2003.
