Rail Passenger Services
ScotRail passenger numbers totalled 83.9 million in 2008/09, an increase of 3 per cent from the previous year, a 44 per cent rise since 1998/99 and a rise of 68 per cent since 1992/93 when records began.
The rail punctuality Public Performance Measure for ScotRail (the percentage of services which arrived at their final destination within five minutes of the timetabled time) fell from 93.9 per cent in 1997/98 to just over 82 per cent in 2001/02 and 2002/03 (when services were affected by the post-Hatfield speed restrictions and the drivers' pay dispute); it was 90.6 per cent in 2008/09.
According to the National Passenger Survey, the percentage of ScotRail passengers who were very satisfied or fairly satisfied with their journey fell from 86 per cent in 1999 to 80 per cent in 2002, before rising to 89 per cent in 2008. The percentage who felt that value for money was "good" was 62 per cent in 1999 and 59 per cent in 2008.
In the 2007 SHS, 86% agreed that the trains were on time, 81% agreed that services ran when the person needed them, and 53% agreed that the fares were good value.
