Manufactured Exports
There was no change in the level of Scottish manufactured export sales in 2008 Q2 (seasonally adjusted). The level of Scottish manufactured export sales decreased by 0.1 per cent in real terms over the year to 2008 Q2.
Over the quarter, growth in exports were observed in engineering and allied industries (+1.4%), wood, paper, publishing & printing (+5.4%), metals & metal products (+1.6%), and other manufacturing (+8.7%). Declines in export sales were observed in food, drink & tobacco (-2.5%), chemicals, coke, refined petroleum & nuclear fuel (-5.2%), and textiles, fur & leather (-6.6%).
Over the year to June 2008, export sales in the wood, paper, publishing & printing industries grew by 13.9 per cent in real terms. Export sales of metals & metal products (+12.9%), and food, drink & tobacco (+1.9%) also grew over the year. Chemicals, coke, refined petroleum & nuclear fuel (-7.3%), engineering & allied industries (-1.3%), textiles, fur & leather (-6.1%), and other manufacturing (-1.3%) all showed a fall in export sales over the year.
