Homicide
In 2006-07, there were 118 cases of homicide involving 119 victims. This represents an increase of more than a quarter on the number of victims in 2005-06 but is broadly in line with the numbers recorded over the past 10 years. There were 167 persons accused of homicide in Scotland in 2006-07.
Over the last 10 years, around three-quarters of solved cases have involved males killing males and the most common method of killing has consistently been with a sharp instrument. In the last five years, over half of those accused of homicides were reported to have drunk and/or have been under the influence of drugs at the time.
