Crime Victimisation

The proportion of respondents to the Scottish Crime Survey that had been the victim of at least 1 crime in financial year 2005-06 was 21.7%. This includes crime committed against the individual (personal crime) and the respondent's household (household crime). This did not represent a statistically significant difference from the victimisation rate of 20.5% in the 2003-04 survey, although the long-term trend is downwards, from a baseline of 26.6% from the first survey in 1992. The Scottish Government has established a National Indicator to reduce overall crime victimisation rates by two percentage points by 2011.
