Children's Social Work Statistics

Description: Local authorities have a responsibility to provide support, security and accommodation to certain vulnerable young people. This publication gives the characteristics of these children in Scotland and combines information which prior to 2002/03 was previously published separately (links below to access historical data).
Key variables: The number of children looked after, and those starting and ceasing to be looked after in the previous year. Outcomes for looked after children, including educational attainment, accommodation type and economic activity. This publication covers children looked after, young people in residential care and in secure accommodation, adoption and child protection. There is also some information on resources such as social care staff and vacancy numbers and local government expenditure.
Figures available by: Gender, age group, ethnicity, disability status, reason for being looked after, placement of child prior to referral, primary known/ suspected abuser, risk identified at conference, length of time on child protection register, number of children's residential establishments and child, staff and places available, admissions and discharges, number of children in secure accommodation, children adopted from overseas, relationship of adopters, type of agency involved and local authority area.
