Businesses in Scotland
In 2008, there were 282,125 private sector enterprises operating in Scotland, with associated employment of 2 million. SME's (enterprises with fewer than 250 employees) made up 99% of all enterprises and provided 53% of all jobs. However, the 2,285 large enterprises operating in Scotland accounted for 60% of turnover.
