Towards a successful and sustainable Highlands and Islands 2025 - seminar series
Drawing on principles in the UK shared Sustainable Development framework, Highlands & Islands Enterprise with the University of the Highlands and Islands policy web are organising a seminar series - with a range of senior speakers who will present their thoughts and visions on the sustainable development challenges for a UK peripheral and rural region in the first two decades of the 21st century.
The lecture themes are centred around:
- Achieving a sustainable economy
- Living within environmental limits / Using sound science responsibly
- Ensuring a strong, healthy and just society / Promoting good governance
Scottish Executive aims for a sustainable rural Scotland
In the opening presentation on 28 September 2006, Richard Wakeford, Head of the Executive's Environment and Rural Affairs Department, set out an overview of the Executive's aims for a sustainable rural Scotland and a successful rural economy.
