The Scottish Cabinet has made a commitment to introduce new legislation for social work services.

Legislation is likely to:

  • Shift the focus from the language of welfare to wellbeing
  • Recognise the partnership between individuals and the state
  • Reflect the principles of personalised services while recognising the compulsory nature of some practice
  • Embed the new national priorities and performance improvement arrangements for social work services
  • Clarify the role of the Chief Social Work Officer
