The power to legislate about age discrimination is reserved to the Westminster Parliament.
The Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006 came into force on October 1, 2006.
Both younger and older people are now protected from discrimination based on their age in employment and vocational training. The legislation will not cover access to goods or services.
