The Scottish Government's Equality Unit provides funding to a variety of organisations and projects to promote equality of opportunity for women and men in Scotland.

The Equality Unit has funded the Women's Fund for Scotland (managed by Scottish Community Foundation) since 2003 to provide grant funding to community organisations and charities to improve the quality of life of women and girls in Scotland, supporting development, self-sufficiency, and economic and social equality. The Government is providing core funding to the Close the Gap campaign (launched in 2001) to raise awareness of the gender pay gap and the reasons for it, and to encourage employers and employees to take action to close it. The Government is taking this work forward in partnership with with a range of organisations, including the Scottish Trades Union Congress and the Equality and Human Rights Commission. The Equality Unit is providing a grant to Children in Scotland between 2005 and 2008 to enable them to explore, promote and support the involvement of fathers in their children and assist in the development of work/life balance for men and women. The project aims to raise awareness of issues affecting children in their relationships with their fathers and to encourage all fathers to develop their fatherhood skills. | | |
The Equality Unit has funded Engender since 2003 to facilitate strong and effective consultation between organisations working on women's issues and the Scottish Government, the Scottish Parliament and non-governmental organisations, and disseminate information on Government policies affecting women.
The Equality Unit has funded the Scottish Women's Convention since 2004, to provide opportunities for women to engage in focused debate about specific issues of concern and to influence policy decisions in Scotland.
The Equality Unit has funded Amina - The Muslim Women's Resource Centre since 2004 to enable the roll out of the Muslim Women's Resource Centre's telephone helpline service across Scotland.
The Equality Unit has funded Women@work, a Highland-wide women's network (managed by Workers Educational Association Scotland), since 2004 to provide information, learning and support for working women (paid and unpaid). Women@Work offers regular local network meetings with topical subjects and stimulating speakers, in various locations across the Highlands.
The Equality Unit has funded Women onto Work (WOW) since 2004 to provide advice, education, training and counselling designed to enhance women's prospects of obtaining gainful employment.
The Equality Unit is providing funding for the Library's transition to the Women's Library for Scotland.
