Conferences on Work Related Violence

A joint STUC/Scottish Executive conference Safe at Work? was held on 7 October 2005

Aims:

  • to examine the issue of violence in the workplace with particular reference to women workers,
  • to bring public facing sectors together to discuss how best the trade union movement could participate in the partnership, and
  • to determine whether gender was a factor in some or all verbal or physical abuse meted out to workers who serve the public.

A further conference was held on 23 March 2006.

The aim of the conference was to:

  • Develop Guidance for Local Authorities and Duty Holders
  • Explore existing initiatives which could be shared with relevant partners.

Following the March 2006 conference a survey was conducted which targeted local authority social work departments to ascertain the level of the problem in different areas of Scotland.
