Prison Visiting Committees

Background

In 2005-06, a group comprimising representatives from the Scottish Executive, CoSLA, Scottish Prison Service, Families Outside and Association of Visit Commitees conducted a review in to the role of Prison Visiting Commitees.

The remit of the review was to:

  • consider whether the role and functions of Prison Visiting Committees and Visiting Commitees for legalised police cells should be altered or extended
  • consider whether the current arrangements for the establishment, composition, appointment of members, funding and performance monitoring of Prison Visiting Committees and Visiting Committees for legalised police cells should be altered.
