Alcohol Licensing

The Government aims to reform outdated licensing laws and improve Scotland's poor public health record on alcohol. The new licensing regime also seeks to protect children from harm and secure public safety.

The licensing system will tackle Scotland's shocking on alcohol by:

  • Developing a sensible 'premises by premises' approach to opening hours and replacing 7 licences with 2 new licences - personal and premises licence.
  • Tackling under-age drinking
  • Cracking down on binge drinking
  • Involving and protecting communities
  • Tougher enforcement or licensing laws
