Better Cancer Care - Discussion

National Discussion on the future of cancer care in Scotland older couple

A national discussion has been launched on future priorities for cancer care in Scotland. This will give patients, carers, healthcare professionals and the public the opportunity to reflect on the progress made in recent years, acknowledge some of the challenges that remain, and help the Scottish Government to focus activity on improving services.

Better Cancer Care: A Discussion, published on February 12, 2008, sets out some of the key issues and poses some broad questions about future change. It recognises that, since the launch of Cancer in Scotland: Action for Change 2001 , improvements have been made in the quality of care, with better access, new technologies and advances in the training and development of those who work to combat cancer. However it also recognises that more can be done, and this paper begins the discussion on how to achieve this.

Responses will help inform the development of a new cancer action plan which will be published in summer 2008. The closing date for submissions is May 5, 2008.
