Adult Support and Protection

As part of the Health and Wellbeing Directorate, the focus of all our work in the Adult Care and Support Unit is to improve the quality of life for individuals who are in receipt of social and healthcare services. We implement legislation such as the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007. We meet particular needs - such as enabling those with a learning disability to live full lives. We develop policy so that individual choice and control becomes a reality - for example through publishing recent guidance on self-directed support. The emphasis in all we do is on the individual so that we genuinely explore ways in which services can be personalised and person-centred. In so doing, we work very closely with those who are responsible for shifting the balance of care so that more people are able to continue to live in their communities.
