The age profile of the population is changing significantly. As a result of lower birth rates and greater life expectancy, there will be many more older people in Scotland, and fewer younger people. By 2031 there will be around 1.31 million people of pensionable age.
Faced with the challenges of an ageing population the Range and Capacity Review Group looks at the future provision of care services for older people over the next five, 10, 15 years with a view to developing an appropriate model of care. This will help the NHS and local authorities make appropriate changes to meet the needs arising.
