The Care Standards and Sponsorship Branch is responsible for the publication and review of the National Care Standards, developing and implementing care service regulation policy and providing sponsorship for the Scottish Commission for the Regulation of Care (the Care Commission). The team also acts as the link between the Care Commission and Ministers.
The Care Commission regulates and inspects all care services in Scotland using the National Care Standards to ensure that people using care services receive the same standard of care wherever they live in Scotland. There are 15 definitions of care service regulated by the Care Commission, ranging from adoption agencies to independent hospitals. There are 23 sets of National Care Standards covering the different types of care services regulated under these definitions.
