| Established: 1923, A Physic Garden was first established 1n 1670. The present Botanic Garden, occupying about 30 hectares, was established at Inverleith in 1923. There are, in addition, three Specialist Gardens, providing a range of climatic and soil conditions; Younger Botanic Garden Benmore, near Dunoon, Argyll; Logan Botanic Garden; near Stranraer, Wigtownshire, and Dawyck Botanic Garden, near Stobo, in Peebleshire. |
Terms of Reference: To explore and explain the world of plants. It is also a major tourist attraction. To maintain and develop the living and preserved collections to project science into society both at home and internationally and to maximize visitor numbers.
