Terms of Reference: CMAL owns the vessels, harbours and equipment required for the operation of the Clyde and Hebrides Ferry Services. The vessels are leased to the operator of those services, currently CalMac Ferries Ltd.

Budget

Total Gross Expenditure: £11,288,000
Scottish Government Grant-in-Aid: The company will be eligible to apply for piers and harbours grants from the Scottish Government Transport Directorate.
Other Expenditure by Directorate: The company will be eligible to apply for loans to build new vessels but these will be repayable to the Scottish Executive Transport Directorate.


Other Information

Income is derived from leasing charges for the vessels owned by CMAL.

Notes:

In preparation for the tendering exercise for the Clyde and Hebridean Ferry Services (CHFS), Caledonian MacBrayne was restructured on 1-10-06. The ownership of the vessels and harbours remained with Caledonian MacBrayne which was renamed Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL) and owned by the Scottish Ministers. From 1-10-06, the Company commenced leasing the vessels to the operator of the Clyde & Hebrides Ferry services (currently CalMac Ferries Ltd.). They also lease vessels for the Gourock - Dunoon and Rathlin – Ballycastle services. A new company, CalMac Ferries Ltd was set up. From 1-10-06 the business of running CHFS was transferred to CalMac Ferries Ltd - owned by Scottish Ministers, as was its predecessor Caledonian MacBrayne. CalMac Ferries Ltd is a subsidiary company of David MacBrayne Ltd, registered in the UK, and based at Gourock.
