The government's overarching purpose is to focus government and public services on creating a more successful country, which offers opportunities for all of Scotland to flourish through increasing sustainable growth. There are five strategic objectives underpinning that purpose - that Scotland should be wealthier and fairer; smarter; healthier; safer and stronger; and greener.
Ministers aim to create a clearer, simpler and more effective public sector, freeing local agencies and front-line workers to focus on delivering public services for the people of Scotland. Public services need to make the best use of public money, and focus on helping the government achieve its overarching purpose and strategic objectives.
