Environmental Management

The Scottish GovernmentThe Scottish Government aims to promote effective environmental management across its organisation through:

  • raising awareness of environmental issues
  • promoting its Environmental Policy
  • working to reduce its environmental impact
  • producing its own annual environmental report

The Government's environmental policy sets out what can and should be done to promote sustainable development, and sets out objectives and targets for environmental improvement across the Government's estate.

Since the establishment of the Scottish Parliament in July 1999, devolution has given the freedom to implement policies on sustainable development, tailored to the needs of Scotland.

Sustainable development is now embedded in Government policy as a cross-cutting issue.

By encouraging individuals to minimise their own environmental impact, we can try to reduce our overall environmental impact.
