Greener Scotland Unit
The Unit supports the Director General Environment in championing the Government's Greener strategic objective and the three most closely associated national outcomes:
- We value and enjoy our built and natural environment and protect it and enhance it for future generations.
- We reduce the local and global environmental impact of our consumption and production.
- We live in well-designed, sustainable places where we are able to access the amenities and services we need.
Its functions include:
providing the secretariat for the Greener Scotland Board and support for the Directors leading on the Greener national outcomes,
working with a number of bodies providing challenge, expertise, advocacy or scrutiny - including the Sustainable Development Commission in Scotland, Sustainable Scotland Network and Scottish Sustainable Development Forum,
delivering and working with others to deliver initiatives aimed at promoting greener engagement and behaviour change, including:
the £27.4 million Climate Challenge Fund supporting community-led initiatives to cut CO2 emissions
the Go Greener campaign
the Leading by Example programme, which aims to promote good environmental management across Scotland's public sector.
