Appointment to NHS Board

16/01/2008

Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing, Nicola Sturgeon, today announced a new non-executive member appointment to the Board of the NHS National Waiting Times Centre.

Jeane Freeman is a public affairs consultant and was appointed as a member of the Parole Board for Scotland in 2006, for which she receives £185 for each day spent on Board business. Her previous experience covers over 20 years in senior positions in the private and public sectors and includes work as a special adviser from 2002 to 2005 where she worked in the health portfolio amongst other areas.

This appointment took effect from January 1, 2008 and is for a period of four years until December 31, 2011.

This post is part time with a time commitment of eight hours per week for which the annual remuneration is £7,620.

The National Waiting Times Centre is an NHS Special Board made up of two distinct parts - the Golden Jubilee National Hospital and the Beardmore Hotel and Conference Centre. The Golden Jubilee National Hospital is the flagship NHS hospital responsible for carrying out a range of planned procedures to assist other NHS Boards in reducing patient waiting times. The Beardmore is now the national NHS and public sector conference and training centre.

This Ministerial appointment was made in accordance with Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland's Code of Practice.

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Within the last five years, Ms Freeman has been an active member of the Labour Party.
