First Minister Alex Salmond will attend events over the next two days to celebrate the 60th anniversary of independence of both India and Pakistan.
Mr Salmond said:
"I am delighted to celebrate the 60th anniversary of independence for both India and Pakistan. Independence for both these nations 60 years ago began a journey of national development with which Scotland is proud to be associated through the strong ties we share.
"India and Pakistan have made significant contributions to life in modern Scotland. The richness of our culture and tradition, of our art and education all owe a debt to our ongoing relationship. Our One Scotland campaign pays tribute to the diversity that has been woven into the fabric of Scotland's tartan through this relationship.
"I hope and believe that the strong bonds Scotland enjoys with both India and Pakistan will continue to grow and to flourish."
The First Minister will attend the Azaadi Awards Ceremony at the SECC in Glasgow, celebrating 60 years since the birth of Pakistan. Tomorrow evening he will attend a formal reception held by the Indian Consul General in the Merchant's Hall, Edinburgh to mark India's 60th year of independence.
