Minister for Communities and Sport
Stewart Maxwell was born in Glasgow in 1963 and was educated at King's Park Secondary School and Glasgow College of Technology (now Glasgow Caledonian University) where he graduated with a BA Honours Social Sciences.
Prior to being elected Mr Maxwell worked for Strathclyde Fire Service for over 10 years first in the Training Centre, then as Senior Administrative Officer for Central Command and subsequently he worked on the development of the new Management Information IT System.
He was elected to the Scottish Parliament in 2003 as a Regional Member representing the West of Scotland, and re-elected in 2007 when he was appointed Minister for Communities and Sport in the new Scottish government.
He is married with one daughter and lives in East Renfrewshire.
